Products

The ultimate goal of the DUE GlobVapour project is the preparation of distinguished data sets and successful concepts that can be used to ensure a sustainable provision of such data from operational entities as the EUMETSAT SAF network.

Envisaged Products

Total column water vapour (TCWV):

  • GOME/SCIA/GOME-2 over ocean and land for 1996 – 2008 with weekly and monthly resolution;
    product will be daylight only product
  • (A)ATSR-2 land and ocean for 2003 – 2008 in daily and monthly resolution
  • Combined SSM/I (over ocean) and MERIS (over land) for 2003 – 2008 with daily and monthly products,
    SSM/I only will be provided back to 1996 and potentially back to 1987;
    MERIS data are only usable during daylight

Vertically resolved water vapour (WV profile):

  • Combined IASI/SEVIRI data set over the SEVIRI full disk for three vertical layers (surf. - 850 hPa, 850 hPa - 500 hPa, 500 hPa - 200 hPa)
    Period: October 2007 - December 2008.

All products can be downloaded after successful validation. Three different versions of the products can be expected:

  • prototype products covering July, August 2007 and January, August 2008
  • test products covering 2006 - 2008
  • final products as described above.

Expected release dates are December 2010, August 2011, and December 2011, respectively.

Description

Key scientific questions which GlobVapour data can contribute to are climate monitoring and attribution, assimilation of different water vapour data sets to form a consistent analysis, model process studies, evaluation of in-situ water vapour measurements, validation of climate models and reanalyses, assessing the relationship between water vapour and dynamics, research and development for operational applications and input to atmospheric reanalyses.

Data Access (FTP)

The prototype TCWV products (July and August 2007, January and August 2008) of combined SSM/I-MERIS (daily composites and monthly means) and merged GOME/SCIA/GOME-2 (weekly and monthly means) are now available. All products include retrieval error and number of observations.

Data Acces via FTP can be obtained [HERE].
